At a glance
Problem — The scheduling product lived on the web, but managers and staff are rarely at a desk.
What I did — Translated the web app into mobile-first iOS and Android apps for managers and staff.
Result — Used in more than 175,000 business locations worldwide.
01 — The problem
Shift workers don’t sit at desks
Humanity is cloud-based employee scheduling software. Its users — managers and staff on shifts — needed their schedule, team and requests in their pocket, not on a desktop.
Why it mattered — Managers are rarely at their desks, but shift-swap requests and the need for new shifts come in all the time.

02 — Key decisions
Two audiences, one app: staff need their own week at a glance, managers need the whole team.
A dashboard for the whole shift
Staff see their live schedule, who they work with, their next shift, messages and swap requests. Managers customise it to see who is at work, running late or on leave.
Clock in from the phone
Employees clock in from their phone, with optional photo and GPS checks for managers who need them.
Leave by the hour, not the day
Staff request personal, sick or vacation leave, even for a few hours, and always see how many days are left. Managers approve on the go.
